Zhiji L7, the EV disruptor from China

China has been home for many EV startups that are pushing the boundaries in the sector. One of them is a partnership between SAIC, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech and the Alibaba Group. The collaboration, named Zhiji, is producing the Zhiji L7, an EV that looks to shake up the EV world. From pictures released by the company, the Zhiji L7 is a well sculpted four-door sports sedan, with sleek gentle curves allover.

The Zhiji L7 promises range up to 621 miles on its top end variant. This will be made possible by a massive 118 kWh battery. A lower range trim will be available initially though, boasting a still-impressive 400 miles range. The Zhiji L7 will feature an 11 kW wireless charging system. Yes, you read that correctly. The Zhiji L7 will charge wirelessly, a first for EVs. Zhiji claims the charging is 91 percent efficient and you would get 80 km from an hour of charging.

The Zhiji L7’s electric motor will output 400 kW and 700 Nm of Torque. It will take the EV from 0 to 60 miles in 3.9 seconds.

As the true tech-focused car that it is, the Zhiji L7 will replace the traditional side mirrors with cameras.

Speaking of driver assist tech, the Zhiji L7 is expected to have advanced autonomous driving features. It will use 12 cameras and a cocktail of 12 5mm radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and a lidar to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. Zhiji is working towards level autonomy.

The interior of the Zhiji L7 has a huge 39 inch 4K-resolution display, running almost the whole length of the dashboard, similar to the Mercedes EQS. It will use Zhiji’s in-house developed software. While we do not have all the details, the luxurious interior will use wood veneer from trees on the Lake Como in the Italian Alps.

Buyers will be able to choose color options from Diana White, Repin Black and Rapheal Tea. Pricing is not known yet but if Zhiji can deliver as promised, it will be keeping other EV makers on their toes. It will be interesting to see how they reply.
