Octopus Energy Services orders 23 Peugeot e-Expert electric vans in London

As a company that installs electric vehicle charging points in London, Octopus Energy Services is walking the talk by switching some of its service vans to electric from diesel enegines. The company has contracted Peugeot to supply 23 of its e-Expert electric vans.

Octopus kickstarted the process in June, as it opted for the Standard Professional version of the e-Expert. The configuration comes with a 75 kWh battery that guarantees 205 miles, according to WILT certification. That is more than enough for the typical distances Octopus buses cover daily. The battery supports rapid charging, which will net 80 per cent charge in 45 minutes.

The e-Expert can support payloads of 1,266 kg, with a total cargo volume of 6.6 cubic meters. Octopus will be able to use the vans to tow up to 1,000 kg. Peugeot built the van on its EMP2 multi-energy modular platform, capable of 100 kW and torque of 260 Nm.

One of Octopus’ affiliated companies, Smarter Metering Services, a gas and electricity supplier, also ordered six Peugeot’s e-Expert vans. The company has also settled for the 75 kWh Standard Professional variant.

According to John Szymik, CEO of Octopus Energy Services: “As a green energy provider, we are focused on driving the renewable energy revolution globally. We don’t just mean in the energy industry either. With transport being the UK’s largest emitting sector, it’s high time we put the brakes on unnecessary internal combustion cars on the road. Our 23 new Peugeot e-Expert vans ensure we are firmly in the driving seat as we begin decarbonising our whole engineering fleet. With our new vehicles, we’ll be able to install the next generation of clean energy products, including heat pumps, electric vehicle chargers and smart meters. Helping improve air quality in cities across the UK and reducing the country’s emission as a whole.”

Meanwhile, Julie David, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said: “We’re delighted that Octopus Energy has chosen PEUGEOT’s full electric e-Expert van as the latest vehicle to join its fleet. Octopus are doing a great job supporting Britain’s transition over to electrification with the work installing charge points across the capital. With a range of up to 205 miles and a maximum payload of up to a ton, the PEUGEOT e-Expert is a fantastic choice for businesses looking to operate practically and sustainably.”
