The 2022 Polestar 2 has more range at reduced price

If you have had your eyes on the Polestar, you are about to get it for less and with extended range. With the expanded series of the 2022 edition, Polestar is attempting to make the electric car available to a broader audience.

Polestar has made improvements on the Polestar 2 over the previous version. The Swedish carmaker will offer a single motor variant, which is probably why, with the same battery size of 78 kWh, the range is increasing, now around 265 miles on a single charge. The 2022 Polestar 2 will have an optional heat pump that can unlock an additional 10 percent of the range. Even the dual-motor version is getting a range bump of 16 miles to 249 miles, according to EPA estimates.

Another pleasant consequence of the single-motor variant is the lower starting price. You can now get a Polestar from $47,200, which is $6,000 less than the old price. The dual-motor version starts at $51,200 and includes the destination charge, just like the single-motor. This is about $10,000 less than what the previous version cost. For buyers in the US, the $7,500 federal incentive still applies, apart from other state-sponsored incentives that may apply locally.

Other options include the Pilot and Plus packs, costing $3,200 and $4,000 respectively. The latter includes a heat pump, vegan upholstery, Harmon Kardon audio, and a panoramic glass roof. The former adds adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot system, cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and a surround-view camera.

There is also the Performance pack, which is not available for the single-motor version. It adds Brembo brakes and Ohlins suspension dampers. You could splurge on Nappa leather interior as well for $4,000 and even throw in metallic paint, larger wheels, and a trailer hitch.

Polestar has not released the power output of the single motor but the dual-motor setup produces 408 hp. If you can’t wait to configure your own 2022 Polestar 2, head over to Polestar’s website. Deliveries are expected to start around the end of 2021.

Polestar, a joint venture between Volvo and Geely is set to increase its footprint in the US, with plans to make the Polestar 3 in the country and open 15 new showrooms which it calls Polestar Spaces.
